Role in the Task Force initiative:
The FWS investigates the illegal harvest, import, export, and interstate and international sale of fishery resources protected under Federal, State, and foreign law, and seeks appropriate criminal and civil penalties for these crimes. We combat wildlife trafficking, work to reduce consumer demand, and not only conserve for the species, but also for the future generations to enjoy the wonders of the world’s wildlife.
, all trade, including fish and fishery products, requires FWS clearance. Domestically, OLE works with other Federal agencies to address wildlife trafficking including incidents that simultaneously involve IUU fishing and seafood fraud. Internationally, OLE also works with other nations through the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) to address these and other issues involving illegal wildlife trade and sustainable use of wildlife and fishery resources.
