Department of Defense

The Department of Defense (DOD) provides the military forces needed to deter war and to protect the security of our country. The DOD supports freedom of navigation throughout the maritime domain, protecting the homeland in depth through power projection and sustained presence abroad.

The Office of the Executive Agent for Maritime Domain Awareness (EAMDA) aligns joint and interagency efforts, engages stakeholders to strengthen capabilities, optimizes the movement of data and synchronizes enterprise services and enables full spectrum response to any and all worldwide maritime challenges within the DOD.

Role in implementing the Task Force Recommendations:

The DOD functions in a supporting role for other entities involved in directly combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU). The DOD provides support by gathering and disseminating information to applicable agencies as well as by building capacity through the regional combatant commands. As part of the Presidential Task Force, the Office of the DOD EAMDA is responsible for advising on applicable Maritime Domain Awareness initiatives and tools.
